CURRICULUM

The program is new and the curriculum will evolve constantly with input from the residents and as a group, faculty and residents will review the curriculum in depth annually. We aim to improve our training experiences to meet the future needs of our residents and their patients, using the widening circle of resources that become available to us.

First Year Curriculum:

13 Four-Week Blocks

Family/Community Medicine Intensive Orientation/Behavioral Medicine (1 Block)

Family Medicine Inpatient Service (3 Blocks)

Emergency Medicine (1 Rotation)

Newborn (1 Block)

Obstetrics at Queen of the Valley Hospital (2 Blocks)

Pediatrics, Inpatient (2 Blocks)

Pediatrics, Outpatient (1 Block)

Surgery, Inpatient (1 Block)

Vacation (1 Block divided into 2 or 4 weeks)

Second Year Curriculum:

13 Four-Week Blocks

Family and Community Medicine Intensive (1 Block)

Family Medicine Inpatient Service (2 Blocks)

Night Float (Two 0.5 Blocks to equal 1 Block)

Psychiatry/Addiction Medicine including Buprenorphine training (1 Block)

Emergency Medicine/ Pediatrics ER - EDAP at Queen of the Valley Hospital (1 Block)

Gynecology (1 Block)

Obstetrics at Queen of the Valley Hospital (1 Block)

Pediatrics, Outpatient (1 Block)

Geriatrics (1 Block)

Cardiology (1 Block)

Elective (1 Block)

Vacation (1 Block divided into 2 or 4 weeks) → May split vacation during Cardiology into two 2 week blocks

*Lean Six Sigma Green Belt Training (Spring → Excused from rotations during training)

*Electives: Neurology, GI, Rheumatology, Endocrinology, Nephrology, Cardiology, Pulmonology/Sleep Medicine, Infectious Diseases, Sleep Medicine, Hematology/Oncology, Hospice/Palliative Care, Radiology

*Surgical Electives: Urology, ENT, Wound Care, Podiatry, Ophthalmology

*Population Health/Chronic Disease Management (Longitudinal during the FM Intensive, Community Medicine and Practice Management Blocks)

Third Year Curriculum:

13 Four-Week Blocks

Family and Community Medicine Intensive (1 Block)

Family Medicine Inpatient Service (1.5 Blocks)

Night Float (0.5 Block)

CME (0.25 Block)

Community Medicine/Population Health (0.75 Block)

Orthopedics (1 Block)

Sports Medicine (1 Block)

Dermatology (1 Block)

*Electives (4 Blocks, each block may be divided into 2 or 4 weeks)

**Surgery, Outpatient Electives: Procedures, ENT, Urology, Wound Care, Podiatry (1 Block divided 1 or 2 weeks per outpatient Surgical subspecialty)

Practice Management (1 Block)

Vacation (1 Block divided into 2 or 4 weeks)

*Electives: Neurology, GI, Rheumatology, Endocrinology, Nephrology, Cardiology, Pulmonology/Sleep Medicine, Infectious Diseases, Sleep Medicine, Hematology/Oncology, Hospice/Palliative Care, Radiology

*Surgical Electives: Urology, ENT, Wound Care, Podiatry, Ophthalmology

Electives may also include any additional experience on the core rotations as desired in preparation for future practice.
